Terms of Use
Last updated: April 21, 2026. By using this site or subscribing to the newsletter, you agree to these terms.
The newsletter
The Daily 5+1 is a free email newsletter covering news and life in Chicago's Northside and nearby communities. We try hard to be accurate, calm, and useful, but we're human. If you spot something wrong, please tell us and we'll correct it.
Content
The original writing, logo, and design of this site and newsletter belong to The Daily 5+1. You're welcome to quote short excerpts with attribution and a link back. For anything larger, ask first. Photos, logos, and trademarks belonging to featured businesses or talent remain theirs.
Submissions
If you submit a business, nominate a local talent, pitch a sponsorship, or send us a tip or story idea, you grant us permission to review that submission and, at our discretion, use the information in the newsletter or on the site. Personal contact details are never published without your explicit okay.
Acceptable use
- Don't submit spam, harassment, illegal content, or anything you don't have the right to share.
- Don't attempt to abuse the site (automated scraping, rate-abuse, security testing without permission).
- Don't impersonate someone else when subscribing or submitting.
We reserve the right to remove subscribers or refuse submissions that violate the spirit of these terms.
Sponsorship and support
Sponsorships and reader tips are a way to support independent local journalism — they don't buy favorable coverage. Sponsorship agreements are handled separately via email; any written agreement supersedes these general terms with respect to the sponsorship.
Third-party links
We link out to businesses, events, and services we think readers will find useful. We're not responsible for the content of external sites or services.
No warranty
The site and newsletter are provided "as is." We make no guarantees that they'll always be available or free of errors. We're not liable for indirect damages arising from use of the site.
Changes
We may update these terms occasionally. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the updated terms.
